The Crypt Keepers Halloween Game for Kids

IMG_0001.jpeg

When I was 10 I read about a similar game in one of the Scary Stories books and begged my mom if I could bring it to school for my classmates and I for Halloween. We all had such a ball squealing and squirming as we played, it was a ghoulish good time.

Recently, I heard that one of my best friend’s sons was having a Halloween themed birthday party so I thought this could be a perfect party game for the kids. I made my own adapted version and shipped it to them in time for the event but as I was making it I realized this could be a fantastic Halloween activity for families with children staying mostly at home during these darned Covid times.

It takes minimal diy and all the items you need are easily available at the grocery store.

All you need is:

6 x 6” or slightly bigger boxes (shoe boxes could work too)

Tape

Printer (or read the PDF from a tablet)

1 hairy coconut

handful of soft dried apple slices

5 dates, cut one end off each

5 beets with long tails, cut off and only use the tails

8-10 large grapes, cut an X at the bottoms and peel off skin

1 packet plain gelatine dissolved

1 cup any curly pasta, cooked and cooled

1.)Mix the pasta into the unset gelatine and refrigerate till set. (At least 1 hour).

2.) For the boxes, cut a hole in each thats big enough for small hands to go through. You can cover each hole with two slips of paper for extra concealment (pictured below). Build each box and number them 1-6. Now follow the instructions in the PDF below.

The items from left to right: a coconut (shrunken head); soft dried apples (dead man’s ears); dates with one end cut (mummified toes); beetroot tails (rats tails); peeled grapes (eyeballs) and gelatine with curly pasta (brains)
